De Kroon door de jaren heen

Welcome to Hotel, Café, and Restaurant De Kroon!

You'll find us in the charming village of Wissenkerke, within walking distance of the Veerse Meer
and the Oosterschelde, and right on the edge of the National Park.
A perfect spot for exploring by bike or on foot.
Discover the Endless Island of Noord-Beveland, with its beautiful polders, inlets,
birdwatching huts, and of course, the impressive seawall. At the top of the dike,
you'll be rewarded with a magnificent view of both the Zeeland Bridge and the
Oosterscheldekering.

Wissenkerke exudes tranquility and history. Take a stroll through the village,
admire the old mill and characteristic buildings, or pause for a moment at the
water pump in Voorstraat. In the past, this pump provided drinking water not only to
the residents but also to the horses – a beautiful piece of village history.

De Kroon has been a trusted address for hospitality for over a hundred years.

In the early 1900s, the Wolf family welcomed peddlers, traders, and travelers here with food and drinks. Horses and carts could be neatly stabled. In the years that followed, various families took over the business – Priester, Verburg, and Korstanje – and De Kroon grew into a small eatery and guesthouse. De Kroon was also the place to be for village activities: from music and theater evenings to movie afternoons.

In 1975, the Zwijnenburg family came up with big plans. The business was
renovated into a cozy café with a restaurant and renovated hotel rooms.
At the same time, tourism in Noord-Beveland was booming, and De Kroon
grew along with it. More and more guests found us, not only for
a meal or overnight stay, but also for a drink at the bar or on the
terrace, enjoying the company of the villagers.

After the Zwijnenburg family, the De Looff family took over. Around 1997,
the Baaij family also joined the family. In 2001, the hotel was completely
renovated and expanded to 11 rooms, including a meeting room
for approximately 30 people. Since 2018, our guests can also enjoy
the covered and heated terrace – ideal for sitting outside for a little longer.

From 2026, the De Looff family will enjoy a well-deserved retirement, and
John Baaij will be at the helm, along with an enthusiastic team. Together,
we do our utmost every day to make everyone feel welcome
and have a wonderful time.

Much has changed at De Kroon over the years, but one thing has
always remained the same: our hospitality.
Do you have any questions or would you like to know more about the area, the menu, parties, etc.?
Feel free to speak to one of our staff members – we're happy to help! 😊

Great to have you here and enjoy,
John Baaij
